Dear Eskimos, subscribers, lurkers and any other interested parties:
Remember that thing about the winds changing? Well, whattaya know – soon as you turn your back for half a year to write a book, those damn winds go and change on you again! So we have some news for you all, and in best AWZ tradition, it is both stabby AND sparkly.
First the stabby bit: RTL is in the process of enforcing their copyright on all Alles was zählt material, which officially is not allowed and was never to upload on any platforms except their own RTL.de, RTLNOW.de and clipfish.de. Practically, this means no one will be able to upload AWZ material any more, and any clips already containing AWZ material will be deleted for good. Several channels have already been affected by this, and this time, EKP is not exempt from these measures. If you want to download any subtitled clips from our channel for private use only (no re-uploads permitted!), you’ll need to act fast. We’ll post another warning when we have an actual date for channel closure, which will happen in the near future.

We understand that many of you will be upset by this, but there is nothing to be done. Alles was zählt is RTL’s intellectual property and they are well within their rights to protect their copyright. It has been an enormous favour to the international fandom that they’ve tolerated our subtitled clips for so long.
Secondly, as some of you may be aware, there is one last DeRo storyline that has just started airing. Although EKP stopped uploading clips back in December 2010 when the boys left Essen to start a happy threesome with Marc, we have been specifically asked by one of the most fabulous people alive to cover this storyline before we’re shut down. After giving it some careful consideration (“This is so inconvenient. LET’S DO IT!”), we’ve decided to take it on. Because we’re suckers for a good hopeless cause!
Please note that we’re coming back for a LIMITED TIME ONLY. The storyline is not a long one, and we’ve been granted special permission (and a bit of extra time) to upload it. We will stop posting videos for good once this storyline is concluded, and shortly thereafter our videos (yes, all of them) will be deleted just like everyone else’s.
Now, a word on inter-fandom relations (since there seems to be some confusion!): Those of you who kept watching AWZ after we left know that the lovely Cullenlovingmom and her collaborators have been subbing episodes on DeRoAholicsAnonymous, which was shut down due to the copyright blocks. To everyone who couldn’t quench the addiction despite the overall meh factor of the stories (a condition we know everything about, lol), her work has been an invaluable resource. Apparently there have been some unsavoury rumours flying about, so let us make this abundantly clear: We hold Cullenlovingmom (and the liquor cabinet we share with her) in the highest regard. She’d always said that she would cover the storyline only until we chose to pick it back up, and the decision that EKP will be covering this last storyline is a unanimous one. Absolutely no animosity towards Cullenlovingmom and her project will be tolerated on EKP, ever. In fact, no wank about this turn of events will be tolerated at all. We’re all too old for that shit. Anyone likely to read this is likely to be a DeRo fan, so let’s all focus what unites us and on the shiny side of fandom, yeah? Awesome.
Anybody can continue watching the show on RTLNOW.de, at least in regions where there is no so-called “geo-blocking” (geographical blocking of content in certain countries for legal reasons).
Lastly… oy vey, this all sounds way too official and grim! Let’s have some fun with this and give one of the most compelling pairings in telly history a good send-off, because that’s how we roll! There will be tears, there will be drama, there will be snark. THERE WILL BE HAIR, BY MEDUSA’S SNAKES! Let’s wibble and rant and cackle and ruthlessly obsess together – one last time.

Hmm. Any chance of sharing that Word doc with the episode descriptions? I wish I had time to do that right now… downloaded EKP DeRo vids, but really, many are sorely lacking perspective without the snark and deconstruction of the EKP script.

I guess our letters thanking the writers meant little to them as they refuse to let the international fans even follow one story line that meant so much to so many people. I understand copyright but 6 minutes of video per week out of a daily soap and they are ripping everything off line? It just seems like they want to punishthe international fans. I am glad I was rewatching old eps when you posted this. I will be there with bells on and all the Mascara and Prosecco necessary. I am really sad that all the eps will be gone since they are my go to on you tube to cheer me up. I know it has nothing to do with you guys and RTL owns it and can do what they please with it but I am unbelievably thrilled that you guys will be back so all the eskimo hordes will get a chance to say a proper goodbye. I will try not to be too maudlin for now but this is really bittersweet. Love you guys and look forward to cracky commentfest on YT once more.

Dear lovelies! Of course I’m in for your final ride!
Here’s what my spit personality has to say about this:
First, I look so much forward to this. It’s going to be fun and snark and woobie, just classic EKP. And my melodramatic third totally indulges in the idea that you will be wiped off the face of this planet at more or less the same time as lovely Roman Wild will be.
Second, my logical, rational self is totally angry at the morons that are going to take you off YT, because even though I got my fair share of entertainment plus totally unexpected friendships out of your work, I feel sorry for those who might have discovered your adorable channel at a later time, and never will get a chance to do so now. And we all know how much a little true to life storyline can mean to people who are totally down to earth and wrapped up in real life problems (and my heart goes out to a lovely achieving Anna and an anonymous only-acquainted-by-gossip-flight attendant boy.) And there are more of those out there, and it looks like they will never have their souls caressed and their days brightened up by your sparkle now. And that sucks. Big way. So sad that 69 “why DeRo mattered” letters achieved next to nothing. TPTB, do you know what you’re doing there at all??
And third, my gleeful, bitchy, revengeful self can’t wait for the two of you plus talented brain-third (see picture) bounce down a red carpet , whether it be Cannes or some beautiful independent/gay festival around the world, and lean back into my armchair and say : “See, told you so, didn’t I?”

I guess there had to be a final heartache, at least this way EKP gets to end on a bang instead of fading away. Lets be appropriately snarkly and melodramatic.
I will be strong, although it isn’t going to be easy! After all, I’ve been through this pain before, after my beloved ‘Queer as Folk’ ended its five year run on television. I thought I’d break into little pieces with no more Brian and Justin and the gang, but they have been kept alive for more than a decade now thanks to their rabid fans, myself included. At least we have the videos for them, but we DeRo devotee’s will keep DeRo alive in the same way, with our memories, our stories, our discussions, and in our hearts. You can’t kill off something so beautiful (like Deniz & Roman love) that easily. Thanks from the bottom of my fangirly heart for picking the torch back up (although I am ever so grateful to DeRoAholics for stepping in and providing so much help to us).
Now, it is off to the store to stock up on that kleenex. I suspect I’m going to need it…badly! Much love, Grammy

I am happy & sad all at the same time.Its so amazing that EKP is going to finish this one of a kind story of love between 2 gorgeous boys with electric chemistry on screen & off. I discovered DeRo only this year so I Was to late to have a posting love fest with everyone,but i am still so thankful to have found them & to EKP for giving us DeRo. DEROAA- I thanku for bringing us the boys in 2011 & for welcoming me to yr group. It really helps to share joy & pain with likeminded people. The inminent shut down of your channel adds to the general mood right now and we’ll be downloading like crazy. Just a little tiny thing I want to ask you, is it possible to add to your channel the ones that DeRoAA uploaded somehow?, at least the most important ones. It’d be much better to have the complete story to remember. Thanks babies!
I’m afraid we can’t do that, no – with the new blocking functions on YouTube we have to go through a special approval process for every vid we upload. This makes uploading a more involved process than it used to be, and we’ll be trying to limit the number of uploads to the essential eps. And given the limited time frame, we want to focus our time and energy on the current storyline. We hope you understand.
You guys are amazing for doing what you already are!!! And so speedy with the uploads!! Even more impressive if it is more involved than before! Thank you, thank you for taking the time to do this

Thanks so much for this; I was just catching up when OMG I suddenly wasn’t able to download the vids anymore, like midstream, and I had a little meltdown (by which I mean, huge rant, crying and flailing, major googling to find out what happened, all of it).
I’m doing research on German fansubbed soaps so this is WILDLY INCONVENIENT. (Way to break URLs right before we go to print!) AWZ beats VL for me because it’s so much sparklier, and they do things like tease us with cross-dressing (but then they rip it away because can anyone actually be trans, as opposed to merely in disguise?).
I sternly remind RTL that the free labor of fans has brought them a huge-ass international fan base that they are now choosing to shut down, despite the fact that the resulting fan texts are sharply cut and also transformative, the result of the interpretive nature of translation and of the mode of cutting. to create a new text. Ahem. But of course yes, one must honor their wishes and show respect for the source.

until I realized that by downloading episodes, you don’t get to keep your fandom the way it was. the easy way of youtubing a vid when you feel like it. the fact that new fans kept finding your channel and adding to the sparkle. all those comments!! tears from my eyes right now. gah. :CCCCCC
however! this will also be a fabulous way for EKP to come to the kind of end it deserves, so I will head over to YT as soon as possible and join the madness.

I also think the network is being douchebaggy by not letting non-German speakers have an option to watch the show, no matter how crappy it could get. If they have such a problem with uploads and downloads why don't they hire a translator and post subtitled stuff on their own site?

The only thing that would help the heaviness of my heart is to bury my face in the lustrous locks of Aldi. Alas, as that is not possible, I shall have to simply save ever possible mention of anything EKP related wherever it exists in perpetuity.

I’ve recently seen a few DeRo fanvids, and am impressed with the connection the characters portray, even for someone like myself who knows nothing of their story. I had the notion of beginning their storyline on YouTube when I had more time, but clearly now I have *no* time, and can sense that I’m missing out *big* time. So here’s my admittedly lunatic question:
Since AWZ vids are about to be taken down, and there’s no way I can watch the entire DeRo story before then, can anyone recommend a CliffsNotes version of episodes/scenes a DeRo virgin can partake of to get the essence of their love story? I understand what I’m asking is impossible, yet still, I ask. Thank you in advance for any recommendations you can provide.
Actually I may have answered my own question, or rather, you guys did with the captions on the vids. I’ve skipped everything pre-Deniz for now, and some things that one of them may be in but don’t seem to have much to do with them. (I skipped the whole kidnapping whatever that was in the 230s/250s, somewhere around there). I figure I can always go back if there’s time before these get taken down.
Any timetable on when that will be?
